Using dyed wood veneers, metal, and other materials as needed (leather for a cushion, glass for a table top), Jay Stanger creates furniture that breaks out of conventional notions of furniture design. A master of the marquetry technique, Stanger sees the perfect furniture, "enveloping the viewer or user in a comfortable fashion, stimulating all the senses." Stanger's work can be found in the collections of the Rhode Island School of Design, the Smithsonian Institute, and the Museum of Fine Arts Boston.
