Equally at ease with the myriad ways in which glass may be manipulated (blown, cast, constructed), Dan Dailey adds accents of metal to create a body of work characterized by wit and flair but not restricted to any single mode of expression. Dailey makes vessels, freestanding sculptures, lamps, and chandeliers as well as commissioned architectural installations. All begin the same way: as a drawing. Rather than just filling a space, his objets de virtu populate the room with characters. They can be human or animal but are always stylized and stylish. Peggy Gilges, a vice president at Christie's, has written, "What sets the work apart is Dailey's unique ability to capture and communicate the essence of his subjects through line and gesture, posture and expression."
