Throughout David Huchthausen's 30-year involvement with glass, he has always focused on the qualities that are unique to this medium. Through his abstract compositions, he continues to explore how glass can materialize color. Those geometric arrangements of often dichroic colored glasses are transformed by light--sometimes focused through lenses--to project still other compositions through and in the clear crystal blocks that comprise his forms. Huchthausen has written, "My work is deliberately enigmatic and mysterious. I constantly strive to generate a strange and curious quality that tantalizes the senses while challenging the viewer to develop his own response system. The sculpture must have an existence and energy of its own if it is to have any real significance."
