Artist Profile - Michael Taylor

The work reflects the influence of a legacy of modern artists from whom I have learned, and includes frequent references to modern and post modern theory. Some of these references apply directly to the work, while others are distinct contradictions. The most discernible association is with Constructivism. The principles of this premise set the highest store in simplicity, clarity and precision. This is accomplished with non-representational constructions composed of geometric or near geometric elements. Specifically, it has revealed a universal law that the elements of visual perception such as light, lines, colors, and shapes, possess their own forces of expression independent of any association with the external aspects of the world. Their life and their actions are self- conditioned psychological phenomena rooted in human nature. The elements are not chosen by convention for any utilitarian or other reason as words or figures. Not merely abstract signs, they are immediately and organically bound up with human emotion. -Michael Taylor. Taylor's work can be found in the collections of the Smithsonian Institute, the Mint Museum of Art, and the White House.
